Where We Are Making a Difference

We are survivors.  We are heart patients and caregivers ourselves. When other heart patients and their caregivers talk with us, they get to ask us questions about our own experiences. During all these talks our goal is to offer hope and support.  We want to be role models for them.  We are examples of people living a full life with heart disease.

  • We work with the Cardiothoracic Surgery office by escorting PreOp patients to get their x-rays or other tests, giving them an opportunity to ask questions and get answers and reassurance from people who have had open heart surgery

  • We visit heart patients and their families at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in the ICU and Cardiac Ward after their surgery.

  • We talk with patients and their families in the Fireside Room. These patients have been scheduled for a heart intervention procedure.

  • We talk with patients in the hospital during their Cardiac Rehab educational training.

  • We host a separate Young Mended Hearts support group for patients (teens to forties) and their families.

  • We support a Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) support group for patients and their caregivers.

  • We support the PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center’s Teen Heart Screen Program for community high schools.
  • We provide heart related educational information for our community through a series of talks by medical professionals from PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center and other informational seminars including a seminar for caregivers and heart healthy health fairs.

  • We built and maintain our website.

  • We publish our newsletter bimonthly.

  • We speak to community groups to spread the word about Mended Hearts.
